Ohio has 26 species of snake, only 3 of which are venomous – eastern massasauga, timber rattler, and copperhead. The most common Ohio species are the gray rat-snake (Pantherophis spiloides), the black rat-snake (Elaphe obsoleta), and Eastern garter snakes (Thamnophis sirtalis).
Rat-snakes’ eponymous diet of rodents coupled with their renowned climbing ability often result in occupation of structures. While not damaging, encountering a snake or its shed skin in your home can be alarming! Trapping, exclusion and managing local rodent populations are the only effective methods of snake control, call Celtic Wildlife Control today to get started!
