The Eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus) is a small, burrowing mammal prevalent throughout Ohio. Seldom entering structures, chipmunks dig burrows up to 20 ft long with a 2” diameter entrance hole. They can be considered a nuisance by their damage to the landscape. They frequently dig up and eat flower bulbs and seeds, and even tunneling under the edge of concrete slabs.
Chipmunks do not hibernate; they will remain in their burrows for days at a time during the winter. They may come out on warm days, often to travel to another food cache. Trapping to manage the local population is the only effective method of chipmunk control, call Celtic Wildlife Control today to setup your 2-week trapping program!
